As of 10/18/2024, I have gathered a few people—some returning members but mostly people who haven’t worked with us before—that are interested in creating sensory spaces and have been planning for our first event this semester.
Unlike last semester, where we took a more individualized approach to creating a pleasant sensory experience, we have decided to create a collaborative event. In other words, it will be a workshop where eventgoers make sensory toys while being able to connect with other fellow participants.
as of 11/08:
The event will most likely take place on November 21st from 1-4pm — time range might be subject to change. It will take place in room 325, which is the open space located inside the IDM hall and would be ideal for a workshop-like event.
While the event booking is being finalized, the materials we ordered arrived and I got to test out the materials. I found out the the balloon tips need to be cut off in order to fit on the funnel, and that the funnel needs to be propped onto something for accessibility reasons. Below is a stress ball I have made by putting in red Play-Doh inside and tying it up. I have given it to a few people, to which they approved.
as of 11/15:
We originally had one funnel to accommodate for the participants and 10 2-oz playdoh containers. However, we came to the realization that we didn’t have enough clay and funnels. So, we ordered 2 more 3lb clay tubs and two more funnels. This way, there will be more stress balls being made at once and throughout the whole event. We still need to figure out the lighting situation and make exact decisions on the room layout.
